Penn Hills Survey / Mailers
Attention all Penn Hills residents - below is a link to a
survey that is being conducted by a group called Strategy
Solutions, for the Municipality of Penn Hills. The survey
is being done to obtain input and information from residents
regarding their likes/dislikes and concerns about the Penn
Hills Community. If you are interested in participating, please
take a few minutes to complete the survey and feel free to
send the link to any of your Penn Hills neighbors that may
be interested in completing the survey.
Needless to say, we're always asking for your support. The
100% Volunteer Fire Departments save the municipality hundreds
of thousands of dollars annually - but times are getting tougher.
It's harder for families to donate with the rising costs in
everyday life, and harder to attract volunteers with limited
schedules. Here at RVFD, both of our Pumper Engines are over
25 years old, and have been refurbished because we can't afford
a new Engine - one is 1981, the other 1969. Neither have the
safety features for firefighters that national standards set.
Recently, mailers went out along with our annual newsletter.
We need your assistance. As always, thanks for your help.

PA Soldier - MEDAL OF HONOR
The
McGinnis family of Clarion, Baltimore, and Penn Hills traveled
to Washington this week to meet President Bush to receive
the Medal of Honor for their son and brother, SPC Ross McGinnis,
who unselfishly gave his life to save four comrades. Ross,
a machine gunner for his unit, climbed down his hatch when
a grenade was thrown into his Humvee, covering it with his
own body before it detonated, saving four other soldiers inside.
McGinnis is only the third soldier to receive the Medal of
Honor throughout the Iraq/Afghanistan war.

Penn
Hills Fire Line of Duty Death
01 .07.2008
It
is with deep regret that we advise you that Firefighter Harvey
Jordan of Penn Hills #221 was killed in the Line of Duty this
morning while responding to an alarm from an apparent heart
attack. Our thoughts, prayers and support are with our Brothers
at Station 1 during these trying times. More details to follow.
Brother
when you weep for me, Remember
that it was meant to be
Lay me down and when you leave, Remember I'll be at your sleeve
In every dark and choking hall, I'll be there as you slowly
crawl
On every roof in driving snow, I'll hold your coat and you
will know
In cellars hot with searing heat, At windows where a gate
you meet
In closets where young children hide, You know I'll be there
at your side
The house from which I now respond, Is overstaffed with heroes
gone
Men who answered one last bell, Did the job and did it well
As firemen we understand, That death's a card dealt in our
hand
A card we hope we never play, But one we hold there anyway
That card is something we ignore, As we crawl across a weakened
floor
For we know that we're the only prayer, For anyone that might
be there
So remember as you wipe your tears, The joy I knew throughout
the years
As I did the job I loved to do, I pray that thought will see
you through

Congrats In Order
12.10.2007
As
the Rosedale Firefighters celebrated the holiday season with
a family get together this weekend, a few special firefighters
were recognized for going above and beyond the call of duty
for the Penn Hills Community. Past Chief Mickey O'Connor
was recognized for beginning his 45th year of service
with the Fire Department. Mickey has been very active with the
community and has truly passed the community value along to
the younger members and has influenced many of the department
leaders that we have today. Firefighter Greg Hendershot
was awarded the Firefighter of the Year award,
which is voted on by the members of the FD. Greg has progressed
to become a senior firefighter and leader in the department
and is well-deserving of the award. He was born and raised in
Rosedale, and grew up around the department. Doug Hupe, Ray
Zielinski, Craig Loughery, and Greg Hendershot were also recognized
for their quick actions in saving a female from a room fire
on Sycamore Drive last December. Awards were given by the Western
Pennsylvania Fireman's Association. Nice job, guys!

08.26.2007
Assistant
Chief Josh Milfeit recently left for Fairfax County, VA where
he plans to pursue his life dream of becoming a career firefighter.
Josh has been an active firefighter in Rosedale for nearly 10
years, as he was RVFD's first Junior Member. Josh has really
had an impact in the community with the fire company, visiting
local schools, and working as a PH Swim Team Coach. In the FD,
he has served roles as Secretary, Lieutenant, Captain, Asst.
Chief, and . . . Spaz-ball Specialist. Somewhere in VA, hangs
a Rosedale helmet in his living room. Once a Rosedalian - Always
a Rosedalian - Good luck and congrats, brother!
